<image:title>Home - LORNA FREEMAN THERAPEUTIC COUNSELLOR</image:title>
<image:caption>Hi, I’m Lorna. I am BACP registered and offer adult therapeutic counselling services both in person and online or the phone. Sometimes life can feel overwhelming and difficult, leaving us wondering how to untangle and make sense of what is going on. Are you struggling with feeling burnt-out and stressed or having difficulties within personal or family relationships? I understand how difficult it is to ask for help or even to acknowledge that you might need it, especially if you are the ‘strong’ person who is always there for others. The hardest step to take is the first one, making the decision to reach out for the help and support that we all need at times. I provide a warm, confidential and non-judgmental space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings and gain a deeper level of awareness into yourself and others. The areas that I specialise in can be found below. If you think that you would like my support then please do contact me.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Do you lack belief in your personal value/worth? Are you very critical of yourself? Do you have a low opinion of yourself? Do you compare yourself negatively with others? Do you expect others to dislike and criticise you? Do you hear criticism from others when this is not the message that is being conveyed? Do you set very high standards for yourself to try and improve how you feel about yourself? If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions you may benefit from my counselling services to help you overcome your low self esteem issues.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Grief is a natural and necessary process following the death or loss of a loved one, it draws our focus inwards and allows us to reconfigure our lives in the absence of the person that is longer in our lives and move forward without them, whilst still holding them in our mind. If we struggle to process difficult emotions and don't seek support, grief can potentially cause long-term psychological issues. My bereavement counselling service allows me to support you through your grief either in person or online.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Whether you're having problems in your relationship or you'd just like to understand your partner better, talking things through with a counsellor can make a real difference. Relationship counselling is an opportunity to learn healthy communication. A therapist isn’t there to tell you what to do, but to help you and your partner see each other's perspective, listen and speak in ways that are productive over destructive, and make decisions you agree on that move you forward. Relationship Counselling is for everyone. Whether you're married, single, living together or apart, straight or gay I can help you strengthen your relationships.</image:caption>

<image:caption>There are no particular causes for eating disorders; they can and do happen to all genders, ages and cultural backgrounds. It is however more common for these problems to be seen in teenagers. Some common symptoms to watch out for are becoming obsessive around portion sizes, calorie counting, together with ways of burning calories or ‘getting rid’ of food such as excessive exercise, laxative abuse and purging (vomiting) Experiences of eating disorders are unique to the person and it is important to gain an understanding of the whole person, their needs and to help them feel deserving of recovery.</image:caption>

<image:title>Self Esteem Counselling - Self-Esteem & Confidence Counselling</image:title>
<image:caption>Self-Esteem, two little words that mean so much because they describe how we feel about ourselves. The relationship we have with ourselves is one of the most important in our lives and yet we often neglect to pay attention to ourselves, limiting ourselves and not achieving what we could. We all have times when we allow those negative thoughts to creep in and steal our confidence away, sabotaging our motivation. We can be our own worst enemies, giving in to negative self-talk, comparing ourselves to others, focusing on their positives while we play down our own. Low self-esteem can prevent us from knowing who we really are and of being our authentic self. Are you suffering from low self-esteem? Do you believe you are not good enough, unlovable, a failure? Together we will build strategies to notice what is going on beneath those negative thoughts and work to focus on self-worth. During my counselling sessions for low self-esteem, I will work with you on your critical voice and help you develop an increased capacity for taking in appreciation both from others and yourself.</image:caption>

<image:title>Bereavement Counselling - Loss & Bereavement</image:title>
<image:caption>I personally understand the intense feelings of anguish that losing a loved one can bring. The feelings can be so intense that our ability to cope with daily life can be affected. The loss of any significant relationship be it following a death, the breakdown of a romantic relationship, a job loss or even the death of a much loved pet for example can feel overwhelming. Sometimes losing someone can bring different feelings, relief or even anger and these are all normal reactions. The grieving process involves several phases which I can help guide you through, allowing a deeper understanding of each phase to enable you to live around your loss rather than think it is something you must ‘get over’ I have extensive experience working with bereaved clients, be that through a loved one passing away or the loss of any significant relationship. Counselling can help you explore these losses in a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space. It can help you to process and understand your losses giving you a better insight into yourself. If you would like more information on how my counselling may help you please get in touch.</image:caption>

<image:title>Eating Disorder Counselling - Eating Disorder Counselling</image:title>
<image:caption>Are you concerned that you or someone you know may have an eating disorder? Are you struggling to control your weight? Distressed with your body image? Can’t face another diet? Are you experiencing uncontrollable cravings for sweet sugary food? Tired most of the time or lacking in energy and don’t know why? Do you think about food all the time, does it control your life? Maybe you are experiencing medical complications as a result of your weight? I can help! There are a number of eating disorders such as Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and more, all of these are serious conditions with damaging side effects. I can help you to gain a deeper understanding of your problem, to understand the influences that led to the development of the illness and to observe what factors are keeping it going. Together we will look at the physical and emotional factors that are maintaining the problem and learn strategies to manage stressful situations rather than use food. I will work with you to help guide you to a deeper understanding of your eating disorder, the influences which led to the illness developing and what is happening now that is maintaining the illness. We will look at how the way you think affects your feelings and how those feelings then dictate what you do in response. The way you think about yourself will be a huge maintaining factor of your illness. As well as nutritional guidance to help with the physical and chemical imbalances caused by the disorder. There will be emotional strengthening to help you to manage your feelings without automatically turning to your eating disorder symptoms or over or under eating. You will learn new skills to manage your stress and panic and to learn what people or situations can trigger these feelings. Motivation is a huge part of change, if you believe you can do something you are more likely to stick with it so building motivation will be essential. Lapses during treatment are normal and to be expected at some point during treatment. There will be times when we allow negative thoughts to creep in and steal our confidence away, sabotaging our motivation. We will work to build strategies to manage lapses without feeling out of control and feeling motivated to continue with the changes. My counselling for eating disorders looks at the underlying causes of the eating disorder, considers what triggers the eating disorder behaviour and looks at new, healthier ways to cope with the difficult emotional experiences that drive the unhealthy eating. With the right help and support, successful treatment of eating disorders is possible. Speaking to someone about this problem can sometimes be the beginning of recovery.</image:caption>
